The third wave of immigration took place after World War II. Filipinos who worked with Americans in World War II had been rewarded with the opportunity of becoming U.S. Citizens, regardless of the normal 50 person limit. Because of this many Filipinos took the opportunity and became citizens. It is estimated about 10,000 accepted.
Soon after another source of immigration was opened up with the Luce-Celler Act of 1946 that gave the Philippines a quota of 100 persons a year. Despite this records show that and overwhelming amount of Filipinos, about 32,200 immigrated between 1953 to 1965.
This wave ended in 1965, give way to the current wave which has many Filipinos immigrating to America due to the lack of qualified nurses.
